Sometimes you need to go all out. Making a dessert for your best friends that you only get to see once a year is one of those times. It’s not peanut butter or cream cheese, it’s both. Adding M&M’s? Yes, you should still add chocolate chips.
If you don’t already have friends I’m sure these brownies will make some for you. But if you do have friends and you just want to show them how much you love them, bake them these brownies. They are sure to win you some ‘brownie points!’ (Sorry, too much? I just can’t resist a good pun when it’s staring me in the face. I am my mothers daughter.) Maybe I should just stick to baking..
On top of the brownie goes orange colored cream cheese.
Then a peanut butter layer.
Some more brownie batter for good measure.
And sprinkle with M&M’s of course.
Since it’s Halloween I made these brownies extra festive with the Orange swirl and fall colored M&M’s. I’m a sucker for the holiday M&M’s no matter the season, but these rich autumnal hues really complement the dark brownie.
I have no more words, my mouth is now full of brownie..
Peanut Butter & Cream Cheese Swirl Brownies
1 Cup Butter, unsalted
2/3 Cup Cocoa
2 Cup Sugar
1 ¼ Cups Flour
1 Teaspoon Salt
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
1 Cup Chocolate Chips
M&M’s for topping
Peanut Butter Swirl:
3/4 Cup Smooth Peanut Butter
4 Tablespoons unsalted Butter, melted
1/2 Cup Confectioners’ Sugar
1/4 Teaspoon Salt
1/2 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
Cream Cheese Swirl:
8 Ounces Cream Cheese, at room temperature
¼ Cup Sugar
½ Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
Orange Food coloring (if desired)
Preheat oven to 350°
Melt butter, and cocoa on low heat. Add sugar to dissolve (2-5 minutes stirring constantly) then remove from heat. Let cool for a couple minutes then mix in the eggs, then flour, salt, and vanilla. Add chocolate chips and stir in. Set aside.
For the peanut butter swirl: Mix the peanut butter and the melted butter until combined. Add the remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly. Set aside.
For the cream cheese swirl: Beat the cream cheese and the egg to combine. Add the sugar and vanilla. If using food coloring add small drops at a time until desired color is reached. Set aside.
Spray or grease a 9×13 inch glass baking dish. Pour about 90% of the brownies mixture into the pan, reserving a little for the top layer. Spoon lines or drops of the cream cheese mixture over the brownie mixture. Then spoon the peanut butter mixture throughout the pan. And finally pour the remaining brownie batter on top. Using a butter knife, slice through the batter in the pan pulling the knife from one end of the pan to the other. Do this several times to get a swirl effect but being careful not to mix the ingredients to much. Sprinkle with M&M’s.
Place brownies in preheated oven and bake for 40 minutes.
Let cool completely before slicing and serving.
